Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Zion 50K is in the books!
Studies have shown that experiencing awe has been associated with increased calmness and kindness to others. It brings people back to the present moment.
That is exactly what happens in an ultramarathon in a beautiful location such as Zion National Park. Bright blue skies, rocks of every color and shape, splashed with the light of the sun gave us hours of viewing pleasure as we criss crossed along the rim of the Zion canyons and mesas. We were very present as we followed the white dot and pink ribbon marked trails for 33.4 miles of fun.
This episode is about our Zion 50K (33.4miles) race. No we didn't get lost. I am pretty sure I moved all 300 plus joints in my body as we course along the path. How cool to get such a workout while seeing all the smiling faces of people happy to be outside challenging themselves to new levels.
Enjoy this episode, and find out what lies ahead. Visit our website at doctordulaney.com and learn how you can improve your health and learn to move all 300 plus joints in your body. Email me at jami@doctordulaney.com with questions.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 298- Sit Down and Take a Minute

Welcome! and Thank you for listening!
This episode is about sitting?????? Yes, there is a need to stand and a time to sit. One important time to sit is when we are eating. I want to discuss self care and family care this episode when it comes to eating patterns, and how it relates to metabolism and overall health. This is not about needing to be pampered or taken care of. It is about maximizing one of the most important contributors to health: our nutrition. It is not just about what we eat, but about how we eat. In our nutrition class, I often hear about stress eating. We all have experienced it in one way or another. It might be thought of as having control of something in our life, but the reality it leads to less control and poor health.
This episode deals with how those behaviors negatively impact your health. So sit down, take a nice easy breath from from your diaphragm and let's begin.

Welcome! and Thank you for listening! Happy Easter! Happy Passover! and Happy Spring.
Flowers are blooming and spring is in the air. Time to plant the backyard garden and keep planting your gut microbe garden.
This episode is how to improve your cardiovascular health. Cardiovascular health in a recent study was based on smoking, total cholesterol, diabetes, hypertension, body mass index, physical activity and diet. Scoring 0, 1, or 2 for a best score of 14 was associated with decreased cardiovascular events. Don't cheat! You cannot have a perfect score if you are on medications to achieve a good number. Big muscles don't protect you from increased fat mass. Cheat days don't get you a perfect score on diet. Another factor playing a role in cardiovascular health is sleep.
We will discuss those topics and how you might improve each one of those. If you have questions or want to step up your game, check out our website at doctordulaney.com to see you can become a part of our team.

Welcome! and Thank you for listening.
Do you give yourself little rewards? Cheat days? Treats for good behavior? Have you had someone give you rewards along the way for your biggest achievements? I bet not. It seems our "little rewards" along the way often derail our ultimate goals. For the most part, people don't regret the rewards, but are surprised they failed to achieve their ultimate goal. I sincerely hope your ultimate goal is not a bag of chips. We will ponder that this episode, and I will discuss a few matters of the heart, like hypertension.
Join Addie and I this Thursday, March 25, at 5:30 pm for a zoom conference on fermentation and your gut. I will be demonstrating my favorite recipe for making a starter to pulling the loaf out of the oven. Addie will be making a tempeh reuben while discussing how your fermented dishes can improve your gut health. Go on over to doctordulaney.com to purchase your tickets. I cannot wait to meet you!

I am joined on this episode with apprentice endurance athlete in training Paster Hutch Strahm. We ran the Treasure Coast marathon this past weekend together along with Michael Hubbard. It was the first marathon ever for Hutch who had not run a step in many years. He started his plant based journey after multiple coronary stents, hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Fourteen months ago he decided he wanted to run a marathon.
This podcast is a recap of his journey and the marathon. We hope this encourages you to take on a challenge of your own, and achieve optimal health through exercise and plant based nutrition.

Healthy people, healthy animals, and a healthy planet. What could be better. This episode summarizes the points in my Vegefest Presentation at the Punta Gorda, Vegefest.
The risk factors for lifestyle disease, heart disease, and infectious disease outcomes are largely the same. Controlling a risk factor is not the same as eliminating it. Just smoking a few cigarettes does not make a lot of progress. Being physically fit or eating plant based is not as good as being physically fit AND eating plant based.
We are all on a journey to optimal health and fitness. You start where you are and make changes. One step forward at a time. Enjoy the journey and savor each step as you prepare for the next one.
Check out our website at doctordulaney.com to see how we might help you on your journey to health. While you are there, get your ticket for our Zoom Conference March 25, 2021 to learn how to make sourdough bread and a tempeh reuben sandwich as we discuss health and the gut.
See you there! Thanks for listening.

Welcome! and Thank you for listening.
A recent study showed a death rate for the first heart attack of 17.8 % over 28 days. 62.3% of those deaths occurred in the first 24 hours.
Are you at risk, or only the old folks need worry? The truth is that over the past decade the number of heart attacks are decreasing but they are occurring at younger ages. The deaths from cancer and heart disease in those younger than 65 are approaching each other especially in women.
The biggest risk for heart attacks and strokes is diabetes and PRE Diabetes. You know, the don't worry you are only borderline diabetic kind. Those ads on TV stating you can decrease your glucose or HgA1C with certain medications never mention a decrease in heart attacks, because they don't.
Diabetes is a risk for atrial fibrillation and embolic strokes as well as ischemic strokes. You never hear the pharmaceutical companies say their medications can reverse that risk.
My best advise: plant based nutrition and exercise. Big changes are needed to get the best results. It is not for a short time but for a life time.

Welcome! and Thank you for listening! Happy Heart Month and Happy Valentines Day.
I would like to share a few secrets to keep your Valentine around longer and perhaps healthier. It does not involve sugary candies or expensive meals. Make eggs a hard no. Not just the ones in a skillet covered with cheese, but the ones hidden in pastries, and breaded items in the freezer section.
Just say no to dairy. It is a highlighted ingredient on the back of packaged foods in the ingredient list. It is quick. Look on the back. If it says dairy, put it back.
Keep the fat content ideally at 10%. Don't be fooled by the fat grams in the nutrition label. If a serving size is 100 calories and there are 5 grams of fat by weight, it translates to 45% fat. (9 kcal/g x 5 grams fat). It is not an option.
You only have to read a few labels to get the hint. The chip and cracker isle is more than 10% fat. Don't bother going there. Not to worry you will get the "good fat" from kale, beans and whole grains.
If you are interested in learning morning about fermentation and your microbes, join Addie Majnaric, RDN and myself for another Zoom Conference March 25, 2020. Head on over to doctordulaney.com to find out more

Happy Heart Month!
Saturday Feb 06, 2021
Saturday Feb 06, 2021
Welcome! and Thank you for listening. It is heart month! There is no better way to reverse and prevent heart disease than eating a plant based diet. Reduce cholesterol, inflammation, and blood pressure all why decreasing your risk for other lifestyle diseases.
Why does it take a heart attack or stroke to get someones attention? Perhaps we think we are the one human on the planet that can get away with eating poorly and still remain healthy. (define healthy) Most people share this optimism yet are in general very pessimistic about a lot of things that they cannot possibly change. The paradox is real.
Today's episode: plain facts why plant based is best. Super bowl Sunday healthy food ideas, and proof you can turn back the clock on heart disease.
