Friday Dec 30, 2016
Happy New Year! Almost. I hope your have been enjoying delicious goals. Not giant ones like loose 100 pounds or run 100 miles as the number one but something more attainable in the short run like adding more fruits to your daily intake or eliminating cheese for the first 30 days of January. Keep a journal of your daily intakes of the good things and record your mistakes as well so that you can adjust each day and week. Before you know it you will be feeling great and off medications. If you want off your BP, diabetic or cholesterol medications you can do it by being plant strong and eliminating processed foods and oils. Stand your ground your health is at stake. Everyday you delay your body is deteriorating. If you are not healing your are decaying. Stalk up your pantry with beans, rice and potatoes. Make sure leafy greens, cabbage or spinach is on your weekly grocery list. Don't forget the mushrooms, onions and peppers. Make sure you have four servings of fruit each day available. Frozen is ok as well If you have a large bag of berries and a bunch of bananas you will be well on your way to being stalked for the week.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast-Episode 101-Happy Holidays
Wednesday Dec 21, 2016
Wednesday Dec 21, 2016
Can a plant based diet ruin the holidays? Of course not. It could be life saving. Holiday heart is a real condition caused by overeating the Standard American Diet and consuming too much alcohol. It can manifest as heart failure or arrhythmias. Eating a whole foods plant based diet is very protective in this regard. Just take the old recipes and eliminate the oil, the meat and dairy. Protect yourself against others indulgence by bringing a covered dish or sweet treat that have safe ingredience such as dates and fruit instead of sugar and butter. Life is better when you can breath and have energy. Make sure that you have consumed a nutrient dense diet before you go out so that if the choices are limited you already have your antioxidants and phytochemicals consumed.
I invite you to join me January 21, 2017 for our Second Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition conference. Tickets can be purchased in Eventbrite.com. There will also be a drawing for 2 free tickets. Email me with your plant based story at jamidulaney@gmail.com and I will put your name in for the drawing.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast-Episode 99-CIM on Plants
Thursday Dec 08, 2016
Thursday Dec 08, 2016
This episode is a recap of my California International Marathon experience in Sacramento. Traveling plant based does not have to be a challenge. We enjoyed fresh fruit and vegetables at the farmers market, vegan sushi at Lou's and cocount curried root vegetables at The Veg. I find my recovery post marathon is enhanced by a whole foods plant based diet so much that I am not willing to compromise my health by fast foods or nutirent poor choices. It does not have to be complicated or fancy. If you are just beginning to change your diet keep it simple. Roasted vegetables, soups and salads are an easy way to start. That said traditions don't have to be abandoned such as Christmas baking. I have transitioned our family baking traditions to deserts with more fruit and nuts and away from sugar and margarine. With a little searching you can find more healthy deserts for the holidays that can be enjoyed by all without the consequences of high fat and high sugar alternatives.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 98-Thanksgiving Reflections
Wednesday Nov 30, 2016
Wednesday Nov 30, 2016
I hope you had a wonderful plant strong Thanksgiving and your heart was warmed by family and friends. This is the season of high expectations, traditions and sometimes extra stress. If you are new to plant based nutrition it could be a time when you give in to holiday temptations. Stay strong and bring a dish to share. Change your traditional dishes to plant strong versions such as stuffing balls instead of a stuffed turkey. Keep moving it is important. Be the inspiration by sharing colorful plant based dishes. Stay positive and enjoy the company around you. This is the time a year when I see a lot of patients with chest pain and heart failure largely because of what they eat. Eating plant strong will improve your immunity during the cold and flu season and give you plenty of energy to endure the busy schedules of the holiday.
Ticket sales are posted on Eventbrite.com for the Second Annual Charlotte County Plant Based nutrition Conference in Punta Gorda, Florida January 21, 2017. Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast-Episode 97-Happy Thanksgiving
Friday Nov 18, 2016
Friday Nov 18, 2016
Happy Thanksgiving. In my line of work this is often the beginning of overindulgence with salt, sugar and fat leading to worsening blood pressure, cholesterol and overall heart function. It is also a time of the year when stress reaches an all time high. A lot of pressure is placed trying to host the perfect celebration amidst the usual pressures of daily life. Today I would like to share with you what I discuss with my patients and students regarding the stress of the holidays when it comes to maintaining healthy plant based eating. Communication is key. Sometimes just sharing with friend and family that you are going to be eating delicious whole plant foods but not animals takes the pressure off. Asking for support with your transition is often all that is needed. My nutrition class is a great place to get ideas from other students about their journey. It can be a lot of fun making new, beautiful and colorful dishes for the holidays that are also very rich in nutrients. Eating well and deliciously can be healthy even though it is different.
We also discuss LDL or the 'bad' cholesterol. Really the bad LDL is the oxidized version that occurs when LDL comes in contact with free radicals that are abundant after the digestion of animal meats and dairy. Fruits and vegetables provide antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals and keep LDL from being oxidized. So if you have excessive LDL in your system but it is not oxidized it is not going to be deposited in your arteries causing plaques and heart attacks. So eat plants to lower your cholesterol and also keep your LDL out of your arteries. Check out my website at doctordulaney.com and follow me on Instagram at jaimeladulaney. Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Welness Podcast Episode 96-Happy Veteran's Day
Friday Nov 11, 2016
Friday Nov 11, 2016
Happy Veteran's Day. Thank you to all who have served our great country. I appreciate and honor your sacrifice greatly. I was raised to belive that through honest hard work anything could be achievable. This was demonstrated to me by my parents and grandparents. I love my career as a physician and have rekindled my passion by incorporating plant based nutrition. I love empowering patients and nutrition students and anyone who will listen that eating plant strong will allow them to take back their health. This month is Diabetes awareness month. And with over 20 million Americans being diagnosed it is hard not to be directly or indirectly affected by the disease. Over 75,000 deaths occur each year associated with Type 2 or Adult Onset Diabetes. The good news is that it is reversible through a plant based diet. So are many of the complications. Change is a journey but their are many rewards by eating fully plant strong. I say go for it 100%. You may not be perfect at first but keep at it. It will be well worth the journey. I would love to help through my nutrition classes here in Port Charlotte, Florida or online. You can reach me at jamidulaney@gmail.com and visit my website at doctordulaney.com. Follow me on Instagam at jaimeladulaney to see what is on my plate. I love to cook and creat new recipes to share. Mark your calender for January 21, 2017 for our day long plant based nutrition conference with Dr. Michael Klaper and Timaree Hagenburger RD.
Moving your body and consider a Turkey Trot to get things rolling. We discuss why I think marathon running is great fun for all ages. Thanks for listening and again salute to all of our Veterans.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellnss Podcast Episode 95-Join the Team
Friday Nov 04, 2016
Friday Nov 04, 2016
Everyone wants to be a part of a team. The winning team sure, but it is also great to be the underdog. Being plant strong is certainly a winning choice for health, the planet, and the animals. However, one can feel like the underdog or quite alone in making the transition. I often recommend listening to podcasts, especially mine. It is also great to join groups that meet for dinner or have monthly speakers. But the best team of all is the home team. There is no better support than family. Well for about anything but nutrition. Because we have grown up with food likes and dislikes based on our ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Challenges to these beliefs can be very personal. However, this is a change that benefits all and is substantially easier and more fun as a home team. Kids, I'm sorry but you are players not managers of the team. Parents you are the leaders and the ones that obtains and sifts through knowledge versus marketing. Parents are in charge of health. Spouses are team members that have agreed to support the greater cause of the team. That means keeping the team healthy. So I challenge you to join the plant strong team as a family effort no matter how big or small. Celebrate with a plant strong tailgate at home or at another event. Take pride in your plant strong healthy team. Email me a jamidulaney@gmail.com or doctordulaney.com

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episod 94-with Lean Green Dad
Friday Oct 28, 2016
Friday Oct 28, 2016
"Plant Based Lifestyle is about Love". That is the walk of Cory Warren of Lean Green Dad. Initially, it was a path to help his wife gain back her health from ulcerative colitis and now it is the mission of the entire family. Cory wants to help other families make the transition to a healthy plant based life. He has a blog as well as a podcast to promote family tips for staying healthy. He even sends his eight year old daughter to dance class with a mini crockpot to heat her soups and plant based meals. What a cool idea that would work for anyone that need to warm a healthy meal. We talk family and exercise. He is a Florida Ironman finisher and an avid weight lifter and endurance athlete. I mentioned a favorite book: Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run: by Andy Holgate that is very humous with regard to newly triathlete training. He likes to involve his children in videos about nutrition so that the whole family learns and grows together. What a cool Lean Green Dad. Check his website and podcast out. Look for his book to be released in 2017. If you have questions email me at jamidulaney@gmail.com or checkout my website at doctordulaney.com. I am on Instagram at jaimeladulaney. Have a great week.
