Doctor bashing or doctor responsibility. It is certainly complicated but I do believe physicians want the best for their patients and it is a job that not many would trade for if you ask during the 3 am phone call. That said we knew what we were getting into and fought to get it. So we must take control of the downward decline of our patient's health. We are the educators and no educator can be effective in a 10 minute visit. Proper assessment cannot be made without communication and understanding. We as physicians need to take leadership in evaluating and educating the necessity of a whole foods plant based diet. We also need to understand the reasons people are not successful in change and guide them on becoming more aware. Patients get the choice but they should be aware of all of the choices as well as the risks. Eat 4 cups of greens a day. Eat a colorful plate of vegetables and fruit. Forget the meat, cheese and oil. Move your body and gets some sun but not a sunburn. Stay strong and flexible. If your doctor cant help you figure out how to accomplish that, get another doctor. You don't need tests, you need a plan. Email me at jamidulaney@gmail.com and visit the website at doctordulaney.com.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 86-Cow's Milk is for Baby Cows
Saturday Aug 27, 2016
Saturday Aug 27, 2016
We have all had our heart strings tugged by photos of a baby animal being fed by a bottle. Yet we remain comfortably unaware that calves are being deprived of the life giving nourishment they were meant to have by nature because humans like cheese and other dairy from cow's milk. Not only is it cruel to the calf but it is harmful to humans. It is associated wtih allegies, autoimmune disease, cancers, and cardiovascular disease. We make it even worse by adding large amounts of sugar to make ice cream and large amounts of salt to make cheese. I know it is the way most of us were raised but we also were raised with a black and white tv that didnt have a remote and managed to give that up. I take a little time during this podcast to just ask for awareness before we eat and drink. Also finding common ground. Oatmeal is plantbased and almost everyone has eaten it. Perhaps take a little time this week to jot down plant based foods that you like and eat already that could be used to make a two week menu.

Welcome to our plant based wedding. I recently celebrated the marriage of my daughter Addie Dulaney to Nathan Majnaric. It was a perfect day celebrating with wonderful friends and family. We were truely blessed. Addie and Nathan decided that they would like to have the food be plant based but to do it in such a way that introduced our omnivore friends and family to great plant based food without really annoucing it. I am pleased to tell you that it was a huge success. Even a former defensive lineman and strength coach was pleased and intrigued.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 82 with Boyd Myers
Saturday Jul 09, 2016
Saturday Jul 09, 2016
I would like to welcome Dr. Boyd Myers to the podcast. He is a Family Physician who has adopted plant based nutrition as a lifestyle and is now interested in spreading the word to other physicians and anyone else willing to hear his story. His immediate reaction was that eating plant based will be too hard to pull off. Not uncommonly, a patient following the Pritikin diet was his inspirtation and supporter. You will get a glimpse into the thoughts of a Family Practictioner on patient relationships and the practice of medicine. You will hear his kindness and empathy as well as his desire to imporve the lives of those around him. I believe people like Dr. Myers will help spread the word to the physician community that there is a kinder more gentle approach to medicine that will help the patient and the physician achieve a better life. Run 100 kilometers on a plant based diet ? Yes that is what Jim Gray does. And he runs without migraines that he used to get eating the Standard American Diet. No fancy food just plants. Watermelon, dates and bananas to run long. No protein shakes or pizzas with cheese. No hypertension anymore either after taking BP pills for decades. Teenage kids are no problem in Jim's house when it comes to plant based nutrition. What more can a parent do to assure healthy children. Amazing. Enjoy my interview with Jim Gray, an everyday inspiration.

I had the opportunity to speak at the South Carolina Academy of Family Practice in Hilton Head, South Carolina last weekend. There were some plant based doctors that were happy to be supported. The others were very receptive to the concept of food as medicine. At least they were receptive to food could be the reason for disease. I believe we as physicians need to reclaim our role in the community as teachers of health and wellness as opposed to pusher of the latest pharmaceutical discovery. By educatng we can empower people to take control of their health which makes us all feel good. No brainer.

I am an endurance athlete. Not an Olympian or a "contender". A middle of the pack marathon runner and triathlete. That does not mean I do not have the desire to improve or become faster. Nor does it mean I use age as an excuse. To the contrary I need to push to stay ahead of that downhill curve people say is coming. Not yet. I think it is like everything else we set goal that we do not alway achieve but that does not make them unworthy of the effort. The same goes for nutrtiion. Try to make each day a little better.
