Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Welness Podcast Episode 96-Happy Veteran's Day
Friday Nov 11, 2016
Friday Nov 11, 2016
Happy Veteran's Day. Thank you to all who have served our great country. I appreciate and honor your sacrifice greatly. I was raised to belive that through honest hard work anything could be achievable. This was demonstrated to me by my parents and grandparents. I love my career as a physician and have rekindled my passion by incorporating plant based nutrition. I love empowering patients and nutrition students and anyone who will listen that eating plant strong will allow them to take back their health. This month is Diabetes awareness month. And with over 20 million Americans being diagnosed it is hard not to be directly or indirectly affected by the disease. Over 75,000 deaths occur each year associated with Type 2 or Adult Onset Diabetes. The good news is that it is reversible through a plant based diet. So are many of the complications. Change is a journey but their are many rewards by eating fully plant strong. I say go for it 100%. You may not be perfect at first but keep at it. It will be well worth the journey. I would love to help through my nutrition classes here in Port Charlotte, Florida or online. You can reach me at jamidulaney@gmail.com and visit my website at doctordulaney.com. Follow me on Instagam at jaimeladulaney to see what is on my plate. I love to cook and creat new recipes to share. Mark your calender for January 21, 2017 for our day long plant based nutrition conference with Dr. Michael Klaper and Timaree Hagenburger RD.
Moving your body and consider a Turkey Trot to get things rolling. We discuss why I think marathon running is great fun for all ages. Thanks for listening and again salute to all of our Veterans.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellnss Podcast Episode 95-Join the Team
Friday Nov 04, 2016
Friday Nov 04, 2016
Everyone wants to be a part of a team. The winning team sure, but it is also great to be the underdog. Being plant strong is certainly a winning choice for health, the planet, and the animals. However, one can feel like the underdog or quite alone in making the transition. I often recommend listening to podcasts, especially mine. It is also great to join groups that meet for dinner or have monthly speakers. But the best team of all is the home team. There is no better support than family. Well for about anything but nutrition. Because we have grown up with food likes and dislikes based on our ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Challenges to these beliefs can be very personal. However, this is a change that benefits all and is substantially easier and more fun as a home team. Kids, I'm sorry but you are players not managers of the team. Parents you are the leaders and the ones that obtains and sifts through knowledge versus marketing. Parents are in charge of health. Spouses are team members that have agreed to support the greater cause of the team. That means keeping the team healthy. So I challenge you to join the plant strong team as a family effort no matter how big or small. Celebrate with a plant strong tailgate at home or at another event. Take pride in your plant strong healthy team. Email me a jamidulaney@gmail.com or doctordulaney.com

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episod 94-with Lean Green Dad

"Plant Based Lifestyle is about Love". That is the walk of Cory Warren of Lean Green Dad. Initially, it was a path to help his wife gain back her health from ulcerative colitis and now it is the mission of the entire family. Cory wants to help other families make the transition to a healthy plant based life. He has a blog as well as a podcast to promote family tips for staying healthy. He even sends his eight year old daughter to dance class with a mini crockpot to heat her soups and plant based meals. What a cool idea that would work for anyone that need to warm a healthy meal. We talk family and exercise. He is a Florida Ironman finisher and an avid weight lifter and endurance athlete. I mentioned a favorite book: Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run: by Andy Holgate that is very humous with regard to newly triathlete training. He likes to involve his children in videos about nutrition so that the whole family learns and grows together. What a cool Lean Green Dad. Check his website and podcast out. Look for his book to be released in 2017. If you have questions email me at jamidulaney@gmail.com or checkout my website at doctordulaney.com. I am on Instagram at jaimeladulaney. Have a great week.

"Not every day is a good day" is something my father once told me in my disappointment over how life was going. But then again there is something good about every day. My week was not a total success but there were moments of progress. I also had my eyes opened to the difficulty of educating todays traditional medical doctors. There is a lot of information and a lot of demand to learn the traditional art of healing through medications and procedures. How to restore health in the shortness amount of time with the least amount of effort. My experience with a third year medical student this week exemplified that. He was so overwhelmed with diagnosing and medications that prevention or health through nutrition was never in view. Our medical schools need to teach more nutrition in the first two years and perhaps offer a clinical option for nutritional medicine in the forth year for the few interested. Then we must wait until the experienced physician opens their eyes to the wonders of prevention through nutrition. It is not glamorous. It will never make an episode of Chicago Med or Grey's Anatomy, but it is real. And when one see's the power of nutrition you cannot turn away. The progress is slow but rewarding. Healing without harm. Educating to empower others to heal themselves. Email me with questions at jamidulaney@gmail.com and visit the website at doctordulaney.com. I am available for telemedicine consults through the website as well. Be well and be plant strong.

What does an Ironman have to do with plant based nutrition? Well the quick answer is it is what I do for a hobby and what I eat to be healthy. But it can also be a similar long journey of training to move and to eat more healthfully. There will be setbacks and successes. There will be challenges to get the training in and the plants on the table. People will call you crazy or a "nut" for your choices. I believe both gets you closer to the positive aspects of humanity. Our desire to help others and make lives better. Human and non human lives. Daniel Kisch says "ignorance and fear are matters of the mind" Don't let fear block you from being active and healthy. You are capable of many more things than you can imagine.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 91-It is All Connected
Saturday Oct 01, 2016
Saturday Oct 01, 2016
Have you ever watched a toddler pick something off of the floor. They do a perfect squat. Completely balanced. How about a race here running for the line. His head lifts up and his legs jet out in front of him and he pulls them back whipping his hooves to the ground. Fast forward to people walking in the box stores leaning on the carts trying to get one leg in front of the other. We have lost mobility and connectedness by being sedentary. I challenge you to move your body and stretch. Get on the floor and back up. Try yoga and foam rolling to get your body connected again. Add that to a nutrient dense plant based diet and your body will stay working like the beautiful machine it was meant to be. Fueling and moving our body efficiently is the best thing we can do for ourselves and others. We all have beautiful fluid bodies that are brilliant machines. I challenge you to find that body within yourself by eating a whole food plant based diet and moving as were designed to do.

Is it the "ghost servings" that are holding you back from achieving your goals. Josh LaJaunie has been there and understands. He has also learned to love himself enough not to let others sabotage his decision to take his health back. Josh has lost over 200 pounds, started running and has progressed to now coming in third Overall in the Wildcat 100. That was not his original goal. He started just trying to fit in a nice suit for a college presentation. Then finish a 5K. Then beat that time and do a 10K. How about a marathon or a 50K or a 50 miler and more marathons faster. He believes our bodies were meant to move. A lot. I agree. Eat plants and move your body. Get out into nature and see the sun come up and feel the sun and the wind. Believe in yourself enough to say to others I choose to eat vegetables and fruit so that I can move my body and enjoy a long healthy life. Enjoy this chat with Josh. Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast -Episode 89 Mindful Nutrition
Saturday Sep 17, 2016
Saturday Sep 17, 2016
If we just take a minute to think about what we are eating and where did it come from exactly, we might just make better choices. People are more particular with what gas goes into their cars than what they feed their families. The government does not help with the purchase of surplus cheese to support the dairy industry and then give the reasoning as it is a good source of protein for poor folks. Really? Yes their is protein with a big side of salt and fat. A more mindful approach would be for the government to purchase ugly vegetables to give to the poor so that they could actually get healthy. Today, I will discuss some tips to become a more mindful chef and shopper. Follow me on Instagram at Jaimeladulaney and check out the website doctordulaney.com. Email me at jamidulaney@gmail.com

Doctor bashing or doctor responsibility. It is certainly complicated but I do believe physicians want the best for their patients and it is a job that not many would trade for if you ask during the 3 am phone call. That said we knew what we were getting into and fought to get it. So we must take control of the downward decline of our patient's health. We are the educators and no educator can be effective in a 10 minute visit. Proper assessment cannot be made without communication and understanding. We as physicians need to take leadership in evaluating and educating the necessity of a whole foods plant based diet. We also need to understand the reasons people are not successful in change and guide them on becoming more aware. Patients get the choice but they should be aware of all of the choices as well as the risks. Eat 4 cups of greens a day. Eat a colorful plate of vegetables and fruit. Forget the meat, cheese and oil. Move your body and gets some sun but not a sunburn. Stay strong and flexible. If your doctor cant help you figure out how to accomplish that, get another doctor. You don't need tests, you need a plan. Email me at jamidulaney@gmail.com and visit the website at doctordulaney.com.
