Halloween starts with the candy. Did you buy the kind you like so that you can have what is left? Did you think what might be a little healthier or perhaps vegan? Still a lot of sugar in the stores as you wall in. Now we are approaching Thanksgiving which has grown to become centered around the poor turkey somehow. Have you considered pardoning your own turkey this year? George H. Bush was the first to do so in 1989. How about pumpkin pie? Sarah Josepha Hale made the first set of Thanksgiving recipes in 1863. We will enjoy a tofu/pumpkin pie in a date/nut crust. If you are plant based you can be thankful for taking back control of your own health. Still struggling? Is it like walking across the hot embers in a fire walk? Looking to the end result of good health and great taste can lead you across. Take a covered dish to you family's house if they are not plant based Quietly lead by example this year and perhaps next year they will join you. Send me your favorite Thanksgiving recipe made plant based. I will share it with everyone and perhaps make it myself. Be thankful and compassionate this eating season and you will find much joy and happiness. Email me at Jamidulaney@gmail.com and check out my website at doctordulaney.com

In this episode we talk about the great Marine Corps Marathon and finishing 3 endurance events in 5 weeks. Ready for a little break. The feature interview is with Dr. Thompson who is a distinguished marathon runner and cardiologist. He was my attending way back in the 1990s when I was in training and did not understand why anyone would run a marathon let alone an Ironman. We chat about the risk of atrial fibrillation in endurance athletes. The good the bad and the we are not sure. All in all very encouraging to keep running, swimming and biking. And for sure to keep eating plant based to avoid risk factors for atrial fibrillation such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. Dr. Thompson is currently the Chief of Cardiology at Hartford Hospital and Director of the Athlete Heart Program and Director of the Cholesterol Management Program. He is the author of over 200 publications and is a frequent contributor to Runner's World Magazine.

Happy Birthday to the podcast. A year without missing a week. It has been amazing and educational. I cannot begin to thank my guests for their generosity with their time and honesty. I have learned a great deal and met some fabulous people. This episode is a fitting summary of the plant based move movers and shakers. Dedicated people hoping to share the simplistic solution to diseases of lifestyle all while helping the planet. This group is made up of compassionate individuals that walk the walk and are positive roll models in a world of deception. In my book Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, and Dr. Dean Ornish are heroes. This episode give a taste of their main points at the conference and more. I hope to have many of the people I met at the conference on the show. Welcome. This interview is with Victoria Moran of the Main Street Vegan Podcast. She is a prolific author and today we talk about her most recent book, The Good Karma Diet: Eat Gently and Age in Slow Motion. I am amazed at the positivity I have experienced since becoming vegan and have begun teaching plant based nutrition in my cardiology practice. Everyone is happier when they feel well. Getting off of medications with their side effects and becoming lean is just the beginning. People seem to be lighter in their mood and more open to helping others. Victoria exemplifies this with her Main Street Vegan Academy in New York City and in her podcast. She gives simple steps and a 21 day guide to adopting a good karma vegan way of life that includes whole foods with lots of color and life. She has the stories of others transformation into a vegan lifestyle as well. If you get the Kindle version there are added audio segments with Victoria that introduces her to you first hand. It is a real treat.

Please enjoy this interview with Dr. Richard Aiken, author of The New Ancestral Diet. Dr. Aiken is the medical director of the Lakeland Behavior Health Center in Missouri. He began his plant based journey after hearing an interview with former President Clinton discussing a vegan diet and Forks over Knives. Yet another testimony that we physicians get little nutrition training unless we seek it out for ourselves often away from mainstream medial education. As a mathematician and physician he was very interested in the scientific models of plant and animal evolution and how they applied to today's healthcare crisis. He has enjoyed the benefits of a plant based diet and he is now moving forward to apply his findings to his current practice of psychiatry.

This episode is a lecture I give to those interested in changing their story. Changing to a plant based diet or way of life offers new opportunities to start fresh with regards to your health. Expand your palate and meet new people perhaps. Pay it forward to others by offering good health to others. A wonderful service to others can be a whole foods plant based meal around a table full of new and or old friends and family. Often times change is thought of as negative but changing to a plant based diet has wonderful side effects of more energy and a general sense of wellbeing that spurs new activities and opportunities. It is never too late to improve your health through nutrition and exercise. Some start with small steps others take one giant step in a new plant based direction.

Saturday Aug 29, 2015
Saturday Aug 29, 2015
Welcome to the 45th episode. I am solo this week to talk about my training and adopting a whole foods plant based diet. There are many obstacle and turns. A lot of confusion about what is the right way to eat. Commit to a whole foods plant based diet and things will improve. It is not for those looking for easy or life hacks. There are no drive throughs or pills that will help. But there is a sense of satisfaction being in control of what is on your plate and more importantly what is making you healthy versus what is making you sick. Buying your own fruits and vegetables and preparing and sharing with others is extremely rewarding. Verbalizing your commitment to health will be supported by your friends and family. You will not see or hear the truth on commercials or advertisements. There are no "hacks" to health. Join me to learn to regain your health and happiness.
