Welcome. Today's podcast features Paul Shapiro, Vice President of the Humane Society's Farm Animal Protection Division. Paul has written numerous articles on the benefits of eating a predominately plant based diet. He is non judgmental and compassionate. His division has introduced Meatless Monday campaigns to universities and hospitals all over the country providing them with detailed how to guidelines. He has been an animal activist since he was a teenager and has learned that you can win more hearts with compassion than anger. He is an avid endurance athlete as well promoting a healthy vegan lifestyle as he works across the country advocating for animals and the environment. Check out the Humane Society Meatless Monday recipes. New ones are released on Fridays so you can gather the supplies to try one on Monday. Also check out egglabels.com to learn what those labels really mean. It is a shame that industry spends such great energy to fool us into thinking that everything is on the up and up.

Welcome to the podcast. I hope to share with you my plant based journey as I teach my patients how to live healthier through a whole foods plant based no added oil diet. It can be quite a shock. A shock to find out that you are ill and a shock to find out that you can get better by eating a whole foods plant based diet. It is not on TV. You will not hear many traditional physicians discuss it or recommend it. Yet the science is there. I am here and passionate about spreading this science because it works. There is nothing more rewarding than to see patients cure their angina by eating greens or seeing patients able to discontinue medications. Listen and learn. Thank you for listening. My first apology is to Dr. Walter M. Bortz II, MD. I call him Dr. Neal Bortz during the interview. He is the author of Roadmap to 100. This episode features the plant based journey of Kathy Grant. She discusses her journey to health through a plant based diet. She is active in a plant based community potluck group that meets in St Petersburg, Florida. I think the support from such groups is fantastic. Ideas and recipes can be shared. One can get motivation from others on a similar path.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 40-Musings by the Doc

I went to see PlantPureNation last night. Nelson Campbell et all made a stellar effort in writing and producing this movie. I had a very interesting night. Usually, I am surrounded by "plant based foodies" in these situations but last night I listened to a frank review of plant based documentary films. My mother has said "the truth hurts" sometimes and it does. But Colin Campbell says it sets you free. And I have lived life on the underdog team so I am used to dusting off and going back in the game. This episode has a little of all of that so I hope you can sympathize with me a little or even give me a hopeful shout out. I believe eating and living a whole plant foods no added oil diet is the way to go to promote health and compassion for others so I will keep looking to find more ways to get the work out and support others in their quest for health. Enjoy!

Welcome and thanks for listening. Today I speak with Michaela Copenhaver. She is an elite rower hoping to make the USA Olympic rowing team as a vegan. She eats plant based whole foods and is doing excellent as an elite rower. This sport combines strength and endurance. The spring season races are 2 kilometers of all out rowing burning a tremendous amount of calories. Why this interview? Well It is cool to speak with an olympic hopeful. It is even more cool to speak with an elite vegan athlete. If she can do this on a vegan diet at an elite level then us regular weekend warriors can as well. She eats a whole foods diet with very little in the way of supplements. She is injury free and energetic. The one thing she has noticed most since being vegan is the lack of illness. I hope you find some pearls in this episode and give eating a whole foods plant based diet a try whether you are an competitive athlete or someone trying to regain their health. Follow her on her blog, The Lightweight Eats or on Twitter. Contact me at jamidulaney@gmail.com with questions.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 35 with Karla Dumas RD

I had the pleasure of chatting with the registered dietitian for the American Humane Society, Karla Dumas. She is part of a unique program that the Humane Society has launched to educate and intiate institutions on developing Meatless Monday and Lean Green Days. They have developed a host of roll out materials and ideas to get programs the support they need to reduce their meat consumption and promote plant based healthy nutrition. She has combined her love of animals and plant based nutrition to start these programs in hospitals, county schools and universities. American University in Washington, D.C. has developed a strong plant based food service promoting animal awareness and healthy eating as one such examples. Did you know that Meatless Monday first appeared during World War I? This was seen as an act of patriotism and conservation of resources. If you have not tried being plant based yet, how about starting with Meatless Monday. Let me know if you are new to this. Send me questions or comments to Jamidulaney@gmail.com. Write me a great iTunes review if you enjoy this podcast. Thank you for listening.
