Welcome and thanks for listening. Today I speak with Michaela Copenhaver. She is an elite rower hoping to make the USA Olympic rowing team as a vegan. She eats plant based whole foods and is doing excellent as an elite rower. This sport combines strength and endurance. The spring season races are 2 kilometers of all out rowing burning a tremendous amount of calories. Why this interview? Well It is cool to speak with an olympic hopeful. It is even more cool to speak with an elite vegan athlete. If she can do this on a vegan diet at an elite level then us regular weekend warriors can as well. She eats a whole foods diet with very little in the way of supplements. She is injury free and energetic. The one thing she has noticed most since being vegan is the lack of illness. I hope you find some pearls in this episode and give eating a whole foods plant based diet a try whether you are an competitive athlete or someone trying to regain their health. Follow her on her blog, The Lightweight Eats or on Twitter. Contact me at jamidulaney@gmail.com with questions.

I had the pleasure of chatting with the registered dietitian for the American Humane Society, Karla Dumas. She is part of a unique program that the Humane Society has launched to educate and intiate institutions on developing Meatless Monday and Lean Green Days. They have developed a host of roll out materials and ideas to get programs the support they need to reduce their meat consumption and promote plant based healthy nutrition. She has combined her love of animals and plant based nutrition to start these programs in hospitals, county schools and universities. American University in Washington, D.C. has developed a strong plant based food service promoting animal awareness and healthy eating as one such examples. Did you know that Meatless Monday first appeared during World War I? This was seen as an act of patriotism and conservation of resources. If you have not tried being plant based yet, how about starting with Meatless Monday. Let me know if you are new to this. Send me questions or comments to Jamidulaney@gmail.com. Write me a great iTunes review if you enjoy this podcast. Thank you for listening.

Episode 33 is up. Howard Lyman is my guest. He is the author of Mad Cowboy, Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won't Eat Meat and No More Bull. What a pleasure to speak with someone who had been on all sides of the fence. He was an organic farmer as a kid, took over the farm and made it a big factory style cattle ranch and then sold everything to help others. He lobbied Congress to help the small family farmer, encouraged organic farming and even helped push the Organic Production Act through. He healed himself eating a plant based diet and now is spreading the word to others. His website is madcowboy.com.

I think you will enjoy Episode 33 with Eric. He is an ICU Nurse and Director of an intensive care unit. He has had a struggle with his weight for a number of years. He has seen Forks over Knives and realizes that a plant based diet is the way to health but has had difficulty implementing the changes. We discuss his food addiction and awareness of what a healthy lifestyle has to offer. Eric was gracious and candid and I thank him for sharing his story. I know it will inspire others that are having similar struggles. I hope that along with him we can make healthcare workers beacons of health and motivation to others.

Welcome to the 32nd episode. Happy Birthday to my daughter Addie. Budding nutritionist. This episode discusses the lecture and dinner I attended with Dr. Furhman. There are some exciting new things on the horizon with more plant based physicians getting together in southwest Florida. Always great to have more people using food as medicine. The age old question is how to get more people willing to change their diet and try healing with whole plant foods with no risk versus all of the side effects with medications and procedures. I encourage you to ask questions and no the risks of the medications and how they work and what evidence there is that they do work. Your physician should walk the walk and promote health not represent disease. If you are not having a heart attack then angioplasty and stent placement will only get rid of your chest pain and not prevent future heart attacks or death. A plant based diet on the other hand can. Thanks for listening

We have a lot to do to get the work out there that food is medicine and we can be in control of our health through what we eat and how we take care of our bodies.
