Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 252 with Jeff Galloway

Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Plant based nutrition gives you a lot of energy. The next step is upping your exercise. The American Heart Association suggests 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise each week. This is a minimum. In fact there is no amount of exercise that has been shown to decrease cardiac fitness.
Exercise is the best medicine to treat depression and reduce stress. It has even been shown to improve memory. As we age we loose muscle and bone mass often leading to joint instability and failure resulting in a need for replacement. The best way to build muscle and bone is to do weight bearing exercise and running is the perfect fit.
If you have not ran in a while or have told yourself you cannot run, it may just be a perception that has been holding you back.
Today's episode with Jeff Galloway will show you that you can run at any age and even complete a marathon! We discussed his Run Walk Run method that decreases the risk of injury and eases you into running longer and longer distances.
Put your shoes on, and take this episode for a walk or a run, walk, run. If you are interested in learning more or would be interested in a plant based running weekend. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Have you ever had back pain? Hip pain? Sciatica? Have you been told to do crunches and sit-ups to strengthen your core? What is core stability? Spinal health? Once a bad back always a bad back? Is walking bad when you have back pain? Dr McGill and I discuss these topics and more during today's episode. Go on over to doctordulaney.com and check out some video links to the episode as well. Our members will get a link to the complete video.

Professor emeritus, University of Waterloo, Ontario. He was professor for thirty years directing the experimental research laboratory investigating the causal mechanisms of back pain, rehabilitation, injury resilience and performance.
Key points:
Create proximal stiffness to improve distal power. Training should give more than it takes away. Today's society sits too much and walks too little. Strategic stiffness is key to healthy and improved performance.

Welcome! and Thank you for listening! Today's episode is timely. It is spring, and there is hope for new life as we emerge from winter. There is hope that the COVID-19 virus is not a virulent as some would suggest and that the infected numbers are going down and people are getting well. There is hope that we have learned what we can do to make ourselves more healthy to fight infectious disease and stress.
Today I speak of a personal perspective on Hope. Hope should never be taken away. How doing something is better than doing nothing. The little things do really matter, and positive thoughts do really matter. I believe this is one of my most important podcasts because everyone can relate. Motivational speeches inspire for a while, but we really need to focus on what we can do. Action. I believe the best version of ourselves can only be attained by moving forward. Celebrate what you can do today, and build on that tomorrow. I will never take anyone's hope away. I believe everyone has a chance at health. But, you have to have a plan. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Covid-19 continues to dominate healthcare concerns. We are all becoming experts at social distancing and hand washing. This is a time to improve our baseline health so that we can survive these seemingly more virulent infections. Our body's immune system is our best line of defense, but when we have chronic lifestyle diseases we are in a baseline weakened state.
Is well controlled Diabetes enough? How much of your health span are you willing to compromise. Improving your health starts at you plate. Between each meal your body movement counts. I discuss this and more on today's episode.

Welcome and Thank You for listening! Today's episode is a preview of Saturday's live audio conference. Our world has had some radical change recently with COVID-19. We are facing new health worries on top of chronic diseases. With that comes new decisions about our future health. Who is ultimately responsible for our safety and health? The ability to alter the genomes of viruses, bacteria and humans is here. Along the way, these advances have lead to some life saving medications and techniques, but they have also had some very negative results. Understanding the importance of how these new discoveries can affect your future health choices is very important. Genes, environment, and chance all play a role.
Take control of your own health now. I'll give you a few suggestions on this episode. Tune in Saturday for a much more focused live discussion. You will have the opportunity to ask questions.
For those who sign up, we will send you our recipes for the live conferences, the slides presented, and you will have the opportunity to listen at your convenience to the recorded version.

Welcome and Thank you for listening. COVID-19 is still on my mind. It is the first time we have had to confront a significant mortality risk from an infectious disease. Our ability to fight infection rests with our current state of health. Diabetes and hypertension as well as other lifestyle diseases are significant risk factors for having a weakened immune system and a potentially more difficult time fighting off COVID-19.
Today is the day to prepare for the social distancing and potential quarantining by gathering needed supplies. It is also a time to take control of your lifestyle diseases. Eating plant strong, avoiding processed foods, animal products, and oils is key to boosting your immune system as well as reversing lifestyle diseases. Let's make the world a healthier place. Start today at home by fixing healthy plant strong meals and getting some exercise. Each day is an opportunity to get healthier.
Our livestream audio conference is still on for March 28, 2020. We will stream live lectures and have a Q and A session. The conference will be recorded for viewing at your convenience for a month. Lecture slides will be distributed so that you can follow along. Recipes for the meals we were going to serve will also be emailed. Go on over to doctordulaney.com and reserve your ticket now or go to Eventbrite.com and get your ticket to the 2020 Plant Based Audio Conference. Email me at Jami@doctordulaney.com with questions.

Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Are you hunkered down worried about COVID-19? Are you at risk? Can you prepare? It is a great time to be plant strong. Are we bullet proof? Of course not. But plant strong immune competent people can take a viral attack much better than fast food, meat eating, immunodeficient folks.
Can you exercise too much or too hard? What do you think I will say?
I will discuss these things and a few other pearls on this episode. I would love to meet you in person. Join us March 28, 2020 for a full day of plant strong wellness with speakers, great plant based breakfast and lunch, cooking demonstrations, and much more. Welcome, and Thank you for listening!. This episode is a recap of the Austin Marathon. One of my facinations about running long distance is it's correlation to life. You prepare and plan, but you really do not know what is coming until you actually begin to experience it. We can control control for some variables, but often the context changes making that preparation less than adequate. Life, like a marathon can throw you some curve balls. But, we have a choice as to how we respond, and we get to use that information in the future. Spoiler alert, I finished the marathon in 4 hours and 34 minutes, smiling.
Taking a look at your current health status and invoking a change requires daily practice and mindfulness. It is quite easy to fall back into familiar ways. Sometimes we have to be patient and allow our bodies to adjust. Other times, we need to get our head out of the way and just push through. That sounds a lot like training and racing a marathon. It is all pretty simple on paper, but the implementation can be quite tricky.
When you run a marathon with thousands of people running and cheering on the sidelines, you are pulled by the energy of the crowd. You want to push hard to compete with those running and push hard not to disappoint the spectators cheering with all their hearts. It makes running 26.2 a lot easier than running by yourself. The same can be said for changing your health status and nutrition. It is a lot easier when you have support and guidance.
I would like to invite you to a marathon of health education. If you want a week long training session with us, sign up for our immersion vacation beginning March 23, 2020. Each day will be filled with exercise, nutrition education, cooking education and health evaluation and planning. The goal is to give you the tools to continue your health training program when you get home. The event culminates in our Fifth Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference, March 28, 2020. It is an all day event of speakers, education and networking. You will leave motivated, energetic, and full of ideas on how to continue to improve your health. Go to doctordulaney.com and click the link to sign up. If you would like more information, email me at jami@doctordulaney.com.
