Welcome! and Thank you for listening. The Mendocino 50K is in the books. It was a great race with great support and great post race food. It was great to do a vegan race and meet a lot of plant strong people.
Slowly more evidence is coming out to support plant based nutrition in the prevention and reversal of disease. This month's JAMA links a high fiber intake to significant reductions in mortality, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and many cancers. Besides colon cancer, there is a reduction of pancreatic, ovarian and liver cancers with a high fiber diet. Only plants contain fiber. To reduce your risk aim for greater than 50 grams of fiber daily. These levels cannot be achieved while filling up on meat, dairy and processed foods. By eliminating animal foods you will also select for a more balanced and protective gut microbiota. Eat your vegetables and fruit.
We are getting close to releasing our cookbook and will keep you posted. I will be speaking at the Sarasota VegeFest May 4th. Come by and say hi if you are in the area. Check out the website at doctordulaney.com for information about the practice as well as a link to MamaSezz.com for some great plant strong meals delivered to your door. Email me with questions at jami@doctordulaney.com.
Thank you for listening!

Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Do you think of nutrition as how much junk can I eat and get away with it, or what can I eat to preserve my health? The saying, we want our cake and eat it has a lot of validity.
The vegan movement is focused on not eating animals and therefore, it is looking for substitutes for animal products. There is not much claim for health other than a few marketing words such as nonGMO or gluten and cholesterol free. Certainly, getting the cholesterol out of the diet is helpful. But fat has always been the larger percentage of unhealthy ingredients. When we see the vegan burgers or vegan eggs our dilemma of giving up something is gone.
The same thing goes for curing lifestyle diseases. We look first to pills or procedures that can offer us our beauty or health back without changing our current behaviors. We blame our genetics on our health fate and are even willing to have them altered if possible to not have to change our current behaviors.
There is not one pill in the compendium of pharmaceuticals that does not list interactions or side effects. If you alter one pathway, there will be consequence in another. Can we afford the compromise is the only question? Most people do not even ask what that compromise might be, including physicians.
Dialing in your plant based nutrition and amplifying your exercise program can help you stay away for the slide down the scale to ill health. Look to what you can do to maximize your nutrition and daily life instead of quick fixes. Maximize today and tomorrow may be a little brighter.

Welcome! and Thank you for listening. The 4th Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference was a success. I believe the best conference we have done yet! Many thanks to Lynda Albert our event cohost, Addie Majnaric, RDN, Eric O"Grey, Alan Goldhamer and our chef, Cheffy Bowman. I would also like to thank our sponsors MamaSezz.com and TowerGarden of JuicePlus. It was a great day of motivation, education and celebration and we are already planning next year. The date has been set for March 28, 2020.
I love to learn and observe. Hearing topics presented with a different twist along with new information is a great way to solidify knowledge. Many of our members feel uncomfortable or unsure of their plant strong convictions when bombarded by questions from their friends. Being at a conference like this one is a way to gain a deeper understanding not only of the science of plant based nutrition but the impact that it has on peoples health. As they say you are never too old to learn and I can attest to that.
In today's episode, I share some of my insights on the topics presented at the conference. I hope you enjoy.
Please check out the website atdoctordulaney.com for more information and opportunities to join our membership practice or subscribe to our newsletter and weekly blog. You will also find a link to mamasezz.com/doc . We have partners with pl to develop and promote an athletic bundle that will allow athletes to obtain great plant based nutrition even when traveling or just to busy to cook. You can get your nitric oxide promoting beets and many other nutrient dense foods that are tasty and handy.
As always, thank you for listening.

You can purchase tickets at doctordulaney.com by clicking the link to Eventbrite.com. This is going to be a day of celebration. Health, wellness, motivation and education along with great plant based food. Dr. Alan Goldhamer will be speaking on water fasting as compared to intermittent fasting. Eric O Grey will share his health transformation journey and perhaps give us some marathoning tips!. I am going to brag about all of the successes my practice members have achieved and why we do what we do. Addie will give you the low down on tweaking plant based nutrition to help you achieve your optimal performance and health. What is not to like.
Eating plant based is great and we know nitric oxide helps dilated blood vessels and reverses cardiovascular disease. But it also has a positive effect on our immune system to make cancer cells less prone to spread. Cholesterol plays a role in cancer spread as well so eating a plant based diet can decrease the potency of cancer cells by taking away a source of cholesterol. There are so many exciting ways eating a colorful, delicious, plant based meal can help us maintain health and wellness.
Thank you for listening! See you this weekend in Punta Gorda, Florida. Email me with questions at jami@doctordulaney.com .

Welcome! and Thank you for listening. The Asheville Marathon Backyard to Vineyard Challenge is a half marathon on Saturday and a full Marathon on Sunday on the Biltmore estate grounds. It is a great tour of the property with a lot of the race taking place on packed trails. I recount the adventure on this podcast.
I started out marathon racing in 1999 to run from by family history of heart disease and diabetes. Over the years, I came to realize that a plant based diet along with exercise was needed to reverse and prevent lifestyle diseases. It has been my practice to demonstrate this by completing over 28 marathons and 6 Ironman races with many of the marathons and all of my ironman races being plant based.
Food is not only medicine but fuel for running and recovery. Just like there are grades of gasoline, there are grades of food as fuel. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains are loaded with the desired muscle fuel of glucose, but also contain many phytonutrients and antioxidants that help you to recover and train more consistently as well as prevent the development of chronic diseases.
Endurance racing is a lot like life. You do better if you can ride the wave and enjoy the journey.
If you would like to learn more about plant based nutrition and how it improves performance, and reverses disease. Please visit our website doctordulaney.com

Welcome! and Thank you for listening. I am dedicating this episode to a favorite patient, Whinnie. She will forever inspire me to be a better person each day by serving others, and to live each day to the fullest.
We all have to do lists. What about what not to do lists. What could we stop doing that would make our health better. Little changes can go a long way to improve ones health. Just because we are stuck in a rut eating the same foods and spending our days in the same ways does not mean that is is the best version of ourselves. What are you going to do today to make yourself a better person? What are you waiting for?
Let food and movement be your medicine. Showcase beautiful and nutritious fruits and vegetables to your friends and family. Show them you care by sharing healthy nutrition. Be the example of continued improvements to your own health and wellness each day.
Join me along with Alan Goldhamer, DC, Eric O'Gray, Addie Majnaric, RDN for a day of plant based celebration at the 4th Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference March 30, 2019 in Punta Gorda, Florida. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. We are learning more everyday about the role of microbes in health and wellness. We continue to learn more about metabolism in health and in illness. Yet somehow, it never gets past the journals. It never gets implemented or promoted in peoples lives. Not all published research is accurate, and sometimes researcher publish to publish instead of taking more time to do more in depth studies. That can be very dangerous when it comes to medications. We want cures released quickly, but we don't want the potential side effects of such quick adoption of new therapies.
That is where we as individuals can take control. Today, I discuss some research papers on the microbiota, exercise, and metabolism. We know that eating a whole foods, high fiber, plant based diet is the best way to maintain a healthy microbiota. That healthy microbiota can be passed from mother to child giving them the best possible start on a healthy life just by breast feeding. No gimmicks. We also know that we can heal our blood vessels just by eating healthy nitric oxide producing foods and eliminating the junk food. Exercise increases blood flow and the delivery of those nutrients to our bodies and stimulates improved metabolic pathways.
So eat fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Exercise daily and often. Get up every hour and move. Get out in the sunshine. Breath deep and thank you for listening to this podcast. If you enjoy it, please share with your friends.

Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Addie and I talk about the SW Florida Vegefest that we attended this past weekend and much more. I have had three talks in the last week at three different venues. I believe they all served each audience differently. The first two were directed at audiences new to plant based nutrition and how it can reverse lifestyle diseases. The audience at the SW Vegefest was familiar with vegan nutrition, but were challenged by how a whole foods plant based nutrition program could make their health even better. I believe that we never should stop striving for better versions of ourselves. Whether that involves nutrition, fitness, or mindfulness, we can all strive to be better. Finding the best aspects of veganism and plant based nutrition can only make the world a better place, and a more positive experience for all of us.
It is not about pointing fingers or making others look less authentic but to bring a positive message of hope for a brighter future for all beings.
Addie and I would like to invite you to join us along with Alan Goldhamer and Eric O'Grey at the 4th Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference March 30, 2019 in Punta Gorda, Florida. Welcome! and thank you for listening. Sorry for the lack of a podcast last week. It has been complicated. We lost a member of our canine family that was near and dear to our hearts. I flew to Atlanta to be with Addie after her best friend Kimba passed.
This episode is a short get you up to date podcast on why I did not start the Thrill in the Hills race. There is a short clip from Addie as she tears up the course to a great finish on her first 50K.
I also discuss my mission to help German Shepherd Dogs avoid cancer. As a plant based physician, I cannot accept that we cannot help dog prevent cancer as well.
I will be at the SWFlorida VegFest in Bonita Springs, Florida next weekend as a speaker. Addie Majnaric RDN will also be joining me so stop by and say Hi. You can find out more information at SWFLVegFest.org.
Head on over to doctordulaney.com to get your tickets for our 4th Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference, March 30,2019. You can also sign up for our free newsletter that has monthly plant strong recipes and wellness tips. Addie and I will be doing private consultations on March 29,2019. Welcome! and thank you for listening. Today, I am honored to have Ocean Robbins as my guest. He is the CEO of The Food Revolution Network at foodrevolution.org If you have not listened to these, I reccommend them. He and his father interview many inspirational and knowledgable leaders in the healthy food, healthy world arena.
Today we discuss the release of his new book; 31-Day Food Revolution-Heal your body, feel great, and transform your world. It is available on Amazon as well as ther book retailers. Check out his website 31dayfoodrevolution.com.
The book addresses the environmental as well as health reasons to choose plant based nutrition. One of the points Ocean makes that I loved and also try to convey in my nutritional classes, is that we get joy from being around people that we love by our interactions. It is the same way with our food. By choosing live plant foods, and mindfully preparing them, we can experience joy and gratitude in sharing health with our friends and family, as well as contributing to a better ethical and healthy environment.
I hope you enjoy this interview. Don't forget to check out doctordulaney.com to purchase your tickets for the 4th Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference, March 30, 2019. Email me at Jami@doctordulaney.com, with questions.
